Krona Chisels

I have seen a few Krona chisels over the past while, although they do not appear to be common. They should not be confused with the “Kronan” brand, although the name is very similar.

Here is a nice bevelled and tanged example with a beech handle and Krona decal. I have not seen a Krona socket chisel so far.

The steel hoop on top of the handle is pierced and held in place with a small nail. The nail is missing in this example. The oval decal has “KRONA” in the centre in yellow letters on a very dark green background. This is surrounded by a red background with some unreadable yellow lettering on it.

The brass ferrule at the bottom of the handle has two rows of coarse, vertical knurling.

The front of the blade does not have anything stamped on it. The back of the blade has an oval stamp with “KRONA” at the top and “MADE IN SWEDEN” at the bottom.

Here is an interesting chisel with a Krona decal on the handle and a Wallins stamp on the back of the chisel blade.

Note the Wallins stamp. (For more info see Wallins Chisels) This could mean that Wallins made Krona brand chisels. On the other hand, someone may have place a Wallins chisel blade in a Krona handle. I would have to see another example to feel certain that Wallins made Krona brand chisels.

The chisel above has the Krona decal that I see most often. It has “KRONA” in the centre in cream lettering on a dark green background. This is surrounded by a yellow background with some unreadable yellow lettering on top and “SWEDEN” on the bottom.
